Field Visit to the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) Representation in Türkiye, Istanbul – 13 May 2026
On Wednesday, 13 May 2026, as part of the MIGOSUR Jean Monnet Chair, we visited the Istanbul Office of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) together with our students enrolled in RI 450 – EU Migration and Asylum Policy: Challenges and Future Directions.
During the visit, ICMPD experts gave a comprehensive presentation on the centre’s fields of activity, working methods, and projects carried out in Türkiye.
The presentation provided insights into ICMPD’s activities in policy development, capacity building, research and coordination, as well as its approach to fostering cooperation among public institutions, international organisations, civil society and the private sector. Our students had the opportunity to learn more closely about the activities of an international organisation working in the field of migration governance and about projects carried out in Türkiye in areas including international protection, irregular migration, migration and development, and regional mobility.
The Enhancement of Entrepreneurship Capacities for Sustainable Socio-Economic Integration (ENHANCER) Project was also discussed in detail during the visit. Funded by the European Union and implemented by ICMPD in coordination with the Directorate General of Development Agencies under the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye, the project runs from 2020 to 2026 and operates in 11 provinces in Türkiye. Its objective is to contribute to the inclusion of Syrians under Temporary Protection in Türkiye in local host communities through livelihood and employment opportunities. The strengthening of local entrepreneurial ecosystems, support for entrepreneurial activities, improved access to new products and markets, and increased employment opportunities are among the project’s key areas of focus.
